“God’s love for us does not diminish because we feel unworthy – but our capacity to feel His love for us, does.”
David J. Lieberman, Ph. D.
This is such good news because I don’t feel worthy all the time. My sins cause me to feel shame which makes me “hide” from God. I think, “How could He still love a sinner like me?”
Then I am reminded of how I love my kids. My love for them does not diminish when they do something wrong. But kids can feel like their parents might not love them as much after they screw up.
We, as parents have to work to reassure our kids that our love for them doesn’t ebb and flow based on their actions.
“But doesn’t God hate sin? He is holy and just so how could He still love me after I sin?”
“For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!”
Romans 5:10
If God loved me as a sinner and was willing to send His Son to die for me, I am confident He will continue to love me now when I sin.
As a child of God, His love will never fail. It is we who constantly need to battle the lies and replace with the His truth that, “nothing can separate us from His love.”
