A sermon on marriage just what I needed…not. Oh, sure I can take notes so I can apply them to my next marriage but these are proverbs not promises so even if I followed all of them it doesn’t guarantee the marriage will work.

Wow, thanks Debbie Downer. There are those of us who are married who would benefit from this message.

I agree 100 percent. I am just trying to figure out how to apply to my current life. Honestly, I got nothing.

I listened to each principle and reflected on whether or not I did those things in my first marriage. I struggle not to shame myself by thinking, “What if I did not do all these correctly? Maybe it was my fault.”

But that’s not the point of the sermon or even of following God. Yes, we should be convicted and moved to change but not beaten down in shame.

God doesn’t give us a list and say live up to these and if you don’t SHAME! No no, Rather He does as the old Hymn says, “And He walks with me and He talks with me and He tells me I am His own.”

Sometimes life sucks. You could do everything right and things still go bad so you hold onto the Hope as the sermon reminded us.

Our God is with us through the good and the bad. Sometimes things work out and sometimes they don’t. But as followers of God, we remember, “that in all things God works for the good of those who love him…”
