“Not all storms come to disrupt your life, some come to clear a path.”

Sara Blakely

The thing I like about storms is the calmness that comes after. Before as the storms build there is howling wind, driving rain, and booming thunder. But after the storm passes as the sun comes out, there is just this silent stillness.

I find it interesting how differently I face weather storms compared to life “storms.”

For example, a few years back there was a wind storm that caused significant tree damage and I had a tree that basically broke in half. Now, I could have just left the tree hanging there blocking part of my driveway, and gone on with life. But instead, I did what any normal person would do and I cut off the damaged limb.

I saw the damage, assessed the situation, and came up with a solution to fix it.

Why can’t it be this easy when it comes to the “storms” of life?

You will face “storms” that will wipe out everything you ever knew and it is going to take years to rebuild. But what if we reframed our thinking? Instead of saying, “I have to rebuild” we say, “I get to rebuild.”

Storms are a natural part of life. We can pretend as if they never happen and be caught off guard every time we face one. Or, we can prepare now by building up a strong foundation that can weather the storms as they come.
