Starting over is hard because you have to admit that something is over. Something failed. Things did not work out as planned so now you have to figure out a new plan. You have been pushed out of your comfort zone into new territory.

It’s not that you have to start over but that you get to start over. A simple mindset shift helps move you from the victim of the story to the hero.

The idea is similar to playing a video game. There are some levels you will absolutely crush the first time you play them. Then there are others that you are going to have to start over numerous times but each time you get a little further because you know what to expect.

There will be seasons in life where you are absolutely crushing it. Then there will be times when you are crushed by life. It’s in those moments you have to decide whether you are going to start over or just give up.

If you give up, you will never get to see what’s beyond your current level. How boring would Super Mario Bros be if you only played to the level you know you can beat? You would never get to experience all the cool power-ups and new worlds available to Mario.

It isn’t always easy to start over but the key is to just “start.” Mourn the loss. Learn from the past and use those tools on your journey to start over.
