“True healing is connected with our willingness to run through the pain not away from it.” -Granger Smith
The first time I heard about this concept of running into our pain, the author used the illustration of the buffalo.
When a storm is coming buffalo will turn to face the storm and then begin to walk into the storm. This is different from cattle which will huddle together to weather the storm. By walking into the storm, the buffalo will shorten the time they are impacted by the storm.
It’s not always easy to face our storms but it’s the only way to get past them and begin to find healing. Hunkering down just keeps us in the pain. We will continue to get beat down by the storm. To find the calm we have to go into the chaos.
“For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.” –Isaiah 41:13
The good news is that you don’t have to face the pain alone. As a Christian, you have the Lord your God right there with you in the midst of the storm. He will give you the strength you need to face the storm.
Turn and begin to head into the storm, taking one step at a time on your journey toward true healing.
