“You find what you look for in life.”

Zig Ziglar

Well, thank you Captain Obvious. Of course, I will eventually find something if I look for it. Might as well say, “You won’t find what you don’t look for…”

Ok, maybe I need more context on this quote. In his book, Top Performance, Zig is talking to a gal who tells him she hates her job and wants to quit. She proceeds to tell him all the negatives about her job. Instead of sympathizing with her, Zig challenges her to look for the positives of her job. She goes on to list several positives and realizes her job isn’t so bad after all.

What’s the point?

If you think you are worthless you will look for things to prove that. Or you might even interpret how things happen as evidence proving you are worthless.

On the other hand, if you think you have value, that will also change how you go through life.

Both beliefs impact you but with very different outcomes.

This is true with others as well. Think of the person who you judged from afar before you knew them. You may have assumed them to be a certain type of person based on what others may have said, then one day you finally meet them and you have to swallow your pride and admit you judged them unfairly.

So would you rather spend your life looking for trash or treasure?
