Wait “hope, eagerly look for.”
At Christmas, we aren’t just proclaiming the good news of a baby being born but the arrival of God himself.
Does anybody else have kids who have been asking to open presents for the last several weeks. Man, I feel the pressure now and hope the gifts don’t disappoint.
Nobody likes waiting. We want the gifts now. We forget that the waiting is part of what makes the gift so great. The anticipation. The build up. Hoping your parents…I mean Santa came through.
But many are waiting for more than just gifts.
Some are waiting for their estranged child to come home. Or for their spouse to come back and work on the marriage. Or to hear back from that potential employer. Or for the doctor to call with the test results.
“He gives strength to the weary…” Isaiah 40:29a
Weary “exhaustion because of the hardness of life.”
Many may feel less merry and more weary this holiday season. But thousands of years ago Isaiah prophesied that Immanuel, “God with us,” would come to earth to bring us hope.
It’s that hope that gives strength to the weary this Christmas.
“but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.”
