My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness I dare not trust the sweetest frame But wholly lean on Jesus name
The Solid Rock Edward Mote
What is your hope built on?
What do you do when all seems lost? What do you do when fear consumes your thoughts and leaves your crippled? Or when you heart feels like it has been ripped out and you are left as a shell? What to do when you feel absolutely worthless, and think that nobody could ever love you? Where do you turn?
Drugs? Sex? Money? Binge watch TV? Scroll social media? Video games? Busyness? Work?
Do you seek an outside stimuli to numb the pain and distract from what you are feeling? Do you seek out anything that will give you that brief moment of euphoria so you can breathe again? A moment to forget everything. A moment that you say is the last one but the hooks of addiction have sunk deep into your mind and refuse to let go. But what’s even worse the very thing you sought out to give you that moment does not satisfy any more. You actually feel worse after every moment not better because your senses have been so seared that you can barely even feel the moment any more.
You are at the bottom. You have screamed! You have cried! You have given up any hope that things will change. You have given up on the hope of any good coming out the situation.
Like the feeling every parent has had when they have lost a child in a crowd. Hopeless. Praying for a miracle. Looking for a glimmer of hope.
There is hope! For Christians, Hope is never lost. Our Hope is found in God! Not a distant, far-off God but in a Father, His Son, and His Spirit! We have HOPE!
We can cry out “Abba! Father!” to God our Father in times of pain for we are his children (Romans 8:15).
Not only that but the Father gave up His only Son, Jesus Christ, to bleed and die for us! Jesus gave his life so we could be free forever from sin and death! (Romans 8:31-32). But it does not stop there!
We are given the Holy Spirit as an Advocate/Helper/Counselor (John 16:7) who: “helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words” (Romans 8:26).
Hope is never lost rather we lose sight of our Hope!
I do not know what you are currently going through but I challenge you to take some time this week to read through Romans 8. Be encouraged by the hope we have in God through Jesus Christ sustained by the Holy Spirit. You are not alone! God is fighting for you!
Romans 8:39b (The MSG)
“absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us”
