That’s Not Fair

“That’s not fair!”
“Life’s not fair” is something that we are told as a bad thing.
It’s the phrase that we all heard repeatedly from our parents growing up and now as parents we say it repeatedly to our own children.

When our parents said, “Life’s not fair” it was usually to remind us that we don’t always get what we want which we hated as kids because it usually meant we didn’t get something or permission to go do something.

For the most part, parents just say this phrase to get kids to stop complaining. It was the ace in the hole because they knew it would shut down any argument.

But have you ever stopped to think about it?
I think “Life’s not fair” when I don’t get my way but could that be a good thing?
What if we counted it as a blessing that “Life’s not fair.”

Looking back over your life, are there times where you are thankful that you didn’t get what you asked for? Are there things that you prayed for that God answered with, “no” and it turned out to be exactly what you needed?

I know firsthand to beg and plead with God to answer your prayers and for Him to say, “no.” In the moment, it crushes your heart. You can’t believe that God would say, “no.”

You think God is crazy for taking away this good thing in your life. It almost seems like it goes against the character of God.
I know that we don’t like to hear this but here it is; God cares more about your holiness than your happiness. And He will do what it takes to draw you closer to HIm.

Again, I don’t even like to say this as much as you hate to hear it but it’s true.

But here is what I know to be true as well. God loves me so much that he does not want to leave me where I am. He wants me to grow so I can experience him in deeper ways and sometimes it takes fire to refine us.

A cold-chisel is a solid piece of steel that is used to cut metal. But how does metal cut metal? You have to expose the chisel to intense heat and then beat the impurities out of it. This process may be repeated numerous times until the steel is without impurities. Then and only then can it sustain the repeated beatings it will face.

Your life may not be fair right now but could it be that God is trying to refine you?

Will you allow him to “beat” the impurities out of your life so that He can accomplish his calling on your life?
