Have you ever had a day that starts off wrong and is just downhill the rest of the day? I just had one of those days and unfortunately, it was also my son’s birthday.
For some reason I had turned my alarms off so I woke up an hour later than usual and it was downhill from there. I had several fires that I had to put out for work that did not get fully resolved. Pizza and video games were cut short due to one of my kids’ behavior. Then on the way home, I got to see red and blue flashing lights in my rearview mirror.
Instead of completely stopping I had “rolled” through the stop sign. Thankfully the officer just gave me a warning.

This goes back to the self-ownership mentality. The week had not gone how I wanted it to and instead of taking control of my ship, I just played the victim. I let my situation dictate how I felt instead of me steering the ship.
As much as I wanted to blame it on work, money issues, or my kids’ behavior, I could not. I had gotten a warning from the cop but I also got a warning for life. I cannot live this way because it is completely miserable.
If I want my kids to do better then I need to lead the way.
