Why won’t you just grow up?! I can’t wait until you grow out of this stage!

Your child(ren) will be with you only a few years. They will also only be their current age once. So slow down and enjoy them.
Why push our kids to grow up so fast? They have the rest of their lives to be adults so why not let them enjoy this time?
Most of the time it is due to external pressures that make us feel if our child isn’t hitting all these markers then they will fall behind. We treat our kids like some work project that we have to keep on task.
I am not advocating that we don’t give our kids any responsibilities or set expectations for them. Of course, we should raise kids who can become productive members of society. The issue is that we can get so focused on future results that we don’t enjoy the now.
It’s like the old saying goes, “It’s about the journey not the destination.”
Yes, I want my kids to grow up and go on to do amazing things but right now I just need to help them get through today. Today is now and I will miss what is happening right in front of me if my eyes are always looking down the road.
