What do the following situations have in common?

One hour talking to customer support only to be told the equipment you are trying to install is faulty.

Losing a day of work because the paint delivery truck did not show up.

The answer? Things like this happen to people all the time. Sorry if you thought the answer was going to be more profound.

These things also happened to me this past week. I was telling a friend about my struggles and how stressed I was when he “gently” asked, “What makes you so special?”

Geez thanks for nothing…

No, I wasn’t offended because I knew he wasn’t trying to be mean. He was simply reminding me that life happens to all of us so put your big boy pants on and deal with it.

Perspective. That’s all I needed to help get me out of the funk.

Sure, I spent a good two hours trying to install a piece of equipment only to find out it wouldn’t work but I also had the time that day to accommodate for the extra time. As for the paint, I just need to plan out jobs better.

Things won’t always go your way so when things go haywire, take a step back, get some perspective, then get after it.
