“The world can do nothing with your kid at 13 if you failed to teach them to listen at 2.”

Dad Talk Today

We are going to see the truth of this played out in the years to come as kids who were given phones as pacifiers grow up. I will admit it for all to know but yes I judge parents who hand kids their phones to keep them quiet.

No, I don’t think all parents who do that are bad parents. I get it because sometimes you just need some peace but…

By handing them the phone in that moment, what issues are you creating in the future?

Kids need to be bored while doing mundane things. Think of all the creative games and ideas you came up with as a kid when you were bored. Kids need to learn to regulate their emotions. They need to learn how to deal with their emotions not just be “soothed/numbed” by a screen.

I mean, I can’t imagine why a teenager would want to spend all their time with their face in their phone if they were regularly handed one as a kid…

Kids need to learn to be a part of society. When adults are talking kids need to learn to listen and how to engage with the conversation or activity.

Giving phones to kids teaches them to be self-centered because they learn that anytime they are bored with a situation they can just pull out their phone and zone out rather than interact with others.
