Sit on the edge of your bed and ask yourself, ‘What’s one thing I am doing wrong that I know I am doing wrong that I could fix that I would fix.'”
-Dr. Jordan B. Peterson

Yeah, hard pass.

Who wants to have their flaws pointed out to themselves? Then if I become aware of something I am doing wrong, I either need to put in the work to be better or live with the shame knowing I am failing but don’t care to fix it.

This quote has very similar language to David’s prayer in Psalm 139:23:

“Search me, God, and know my heart;

test me and know my anxious thoughts.”

If God knows everything about us, why did David need to tell God to “Search him?” It goes back to the quote at the beginning.

David in a sense is asking God the question that Dr. Peterson states. David wants God to show him any areas of failure he may have in his life so that he can honor God and deepen his relationship with God.

It takes humility to ask such a question, for one understands they are imperfect. Yet, they are willing to take correction in order to grow and better the relationship. It’s also a bit scary because they are being transparent and “allowing” God to search their deepest thoughts and secrets and expose any that are not pleasing to Him.

Search me, God.
