“The thing that kept you safe as a kid is going to ruin your adulthood.”

-John Delony

I am not so sure about this Dr. Delony.

No monster has eaten my feet off so far because I never leave my feet uncovered when I sleep, so your theory is busted.

Ohhh…you mean habits or traits we developed as a kid to protect us from a traumatic experience…

That makes more sense.

So you mean like the need to please everyone that way there would be peace to distract everyone from the fact that you are crumbling inside?

Or to just suck it up because no one cared or they said it just made people upset?

Yeah, I don’t want to deal with those kind of issues because they are too painful. They force me to face the painfulness of those past situations and now I have to figure out a healthy way to deal with them rather than cope.

Wanting to please people isn’t a bad thing. Trying to please everyone so they like you because if they don’t you will feel like a loser is a bad thing.

Not all our adult problems are connected to some trauma from our childhood but who we are as adults was shaped by what we went through as kids. We then need to take stock of the habits we have and determine which will benefit us and which we need to get rid of.
