Every man battles with this. You just need to memorize scripture and pray then you will overcome this temptation.
This was the message I was told for years, that is if people actually talked about the issue. For years that’s what I tried repeatedly but nothing changed.
Was I not praying or memorizing enough scripture?
Each time I gave in, I felt shame. What a loser. How can God even love me? If people found out about this, my life was over. I read every book on the topic, went through several courses, and tried various techniques but all with the same results.
Then I found LiveFree Community.
As great as I believe LiveFree is, I have to admit it’s not a miracle app. I had already begun some of the deep work needed to overcome my sin. The group was there to support me. To encourage me when I failed and push me to continue doing the work.
Progress not perfection.
I didn’t need more shame heaped on me because I placed plenty of that on myself. I needed community.
A community as Carl Thomas, author of When Shame Gets Real, describes as “trusted friends who understand and want the best for you, they can help assure you of your direction and decisions…(198).”
This is exactly what I found within my LiveFree Community. Guys pushing each other to not just quit doing a certain sin but to “get the most from their lives and reach their greatest God-given potential (Thomas 189).”
