“Feelings will always go away but the action you choose to take might be permanent.”
Joshua Weissman
Just walk away. Yeah, but I am right. Just walk away. No, they need to hear what I have to say. They need to know I am right and they are wrong.
We all know how this situation ends. The person in the “wrong” gracefully accepts the feedback, realizes the error of their ways, and thanks the truth sayer for pointing out their mistakes. Yeah right.
Pride. That’s the culprit that causes me to react instead of respond. Someone made me look like an idiot or lied to me, and my pride wants justice. I can’t let them get away with this!
Thankfully I have learned the power of texting. Instead of immediately responding I will walk away and shoot a text to a friend asking for help to process the situation. 9 times out of 10, they say, “It’s not worth it.”
Nothing good comes from acting on feelings only. Feelings are only the warning signs of a deeper issue. Feelings are fleeting.
In the moment, you might want to lash out and exact “revenge” on the person who hurt you but that will only end up hurting you.
Your friends and family will only put up with it for so long before they just give up. A kid’s soul can only be crushed so much before they build up walls to keep you out.
Sit with your feelings. Process them. Take time to determine if your would-be response is rational or ridiculous.
