“Failure shows us the way – by showing us what isn’t the way.”
Ryan Holiday
Thomas Edison failed some 1000 times before successfully inventing the light bulb. Michael Jordan was said to have missed over 9000 shots during his career. Yet, no one focuses on their failures but rather on their great accomplishments. Those failures showed them the way to success.
How many of us are willing to fail that much? Not just failing for failure’s sake but striving to be great and willing to work to get there.
I have failed numerous times with my painting business. On the business side as well as the actual painting. Each failure has taught me something so when I face a similar situation, I am better equipped to handle it if faced with it again.
You have to put in the reps.
Just like parenting. We all drop the ball with our first kid, but with each kid, it gets a bit easier.
I changed maybe one diaper before my first kid, but by my third kid, I could change those bad boys in the dark while half asleep.
The good news is that everyone fails all the time. No one is perfect. Even better news is that kids are pretty forgiving if you are willing to own your mistakes and work on improving.
You will lose your cool. You will make the wrong decision. Don’t let those keep you down. Learn from them and do better next time.
