A few years ago, during a counseling session, my counselor said this and it gave me hope.

Ever since I was a junior in high school I knew I wanted to be in youth ministry. My heart was to help students who had or were going through similar struggles I had faced.

So that’s what I went to college for and what I did for about 14 years. I loved doing it so much then the day came that I was no longer a pastor but found myself as a painter.

Now back to the counseling session.

I don’t remember what we talked about or what spurred on this comment from my counselor but I can take an educated guess…At that time I was struggling with my self-esteem. I felt like a loser because my marriage had failed and I wasn’t doing the job I loved.

Then my counselor said this, “Just because you are broken doesn’t mean you are defeated. Jesus’ body had to be broken to show His love to the world.”

He encouraged me by saying broken doesn’t mean useless.

God has a plan. God might just be breaking you so that you can show His love to the world. But only if you don’t give up. You have to trust the process and keep walking by faith.

“And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” -Philippians 1:6
