“I want past tense me to be a source of dopamine for present tense me.”
Chase Hughes
Instead of saying, “I will do it tomorrow,” do it now. You never know what tomorrow will bring or if you will have the time. You have the time now, so do it, that way you have one less thing to deal with. You have space in your schedule instead of stressing about getting caught up.
Having margin tomorrow can be helpful because maybe something doesn’t go as planned, so now you have the time to deal with it instead of falling behind schedule.
Doing it now is building discipline. Instead, of defaulting to the easiest variable you choose to face the trial now. You are learning to deal with issues as they come. Tomorrow when a new issue arises you can face it rather than adding to your ever-growing to-do list. A list that started because you said, “I’ll do it tomorrow.”
Putting things off for a later date is like a tiny snowball rolling downhill. The more time it has to roll and collect snow the larger it becomes. Problems are the same. Putting them off for tomorrow just causes the problem to compound.
And it puts additional stress on you. You will inevitably stress about the problem until you deal with it. More often than not, more problems arise while you avoid another.
Do you want to be a source of stress or dopamine for your present self?
