“Fatigue makes cowards of us all.” -General George S. Patton Jr.
You find yourself sitting there staring asking yourself, “Why did I act out again?”
It comes after what feels like an eternity of trying to resist the temptation. You are mentally exhausted from fighting with that little voice in your head that tells you if you just act out a little bit you will feel so much better.
Deep down you know that it’s all lies because you know a little will turn into a lot.
Imagine you are running a marathon and you quit at 25.5 miles because you were too tired to finish. How many of you would be so upset with yourselves that you were so close to finishing?
That’s what it’s like giving into temptation. We are running this marathon and it is exhausting so we just give up, never getting to experience the joy of victory.
How do you finish a marathon? You prepare ahead of time. You study the route so you know where the hills are to make sure you have plenty of energy to attack those. You eat right. You get plenty of sleep.
But the most effective way to complete a marathon, is to not run it by yourself. If you are running with teammates, there is no way they are going to let you quit at 25.5 miles. They will help spur you on to the very end so can experience the joy of victory!
