“Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.”
James 5:16a
“But it’s hard, scary, embarrassing to confess my sins to someone else.”
Think of it this way: you are outside on a cool fall day enjoying a campfire. As you are sitting there the fire pops and sends an ember outside the fire ring onto the dry grass. You could either stomp it out immediately or avoid it because “It’s not that big of a deal.”
Left alone that tiny ember can burn down a forest so why wouldn’t you choose to put it out before it becomes a bigger problem?
Confessing your sin to someone else can feel scary and embarrassing so what? Would you rather protect your fragile pride or get freedom from your sin?
You screwed up, don’t compound the situation by lying about it. Deal with it immediately. No one is perfect. Everyone sins. This doesn’t mean we just accept that we will sin and there isn’t much we can do about it.
Progress not perfection.
“Better to fall forward than pretend you haven’t fallen at all.”
Carl Thomas
Sin loses its power when exposed to the light. Sure your pride might take a temporary hit but better that than losing your marriage. Or your job. Or even ending up in jail.
Swallow your pride and confess your sin to someone you can trust so that you can find true healing.
