“If you believe you are worthless, then you won’t add value to yourself.”

John C. Maxwell

I totally agree because why would I waste my time on something worthless?

This quote hits me because it’s something I struggle with. I have grown and learned how to deal with thoughts of worthlessness but every now and then that monster raises his ugly head.

Most of my life I struggled with feeling worthless because I never really had a relationship with my dad so that monster would whisper, “Who could love you if your own dad doesn’t?” That monster took years to finally slay. Yes, it still pops up now and then but it’s easily dealt with.

Just when I thought it was safe, two more monsters attacked. I lost my marriage and my job. “What a loser. Your own wife didn’t love you. Some pastor you are if you can’t lead your own family.”

Lies. Lies to make me feel worthless. More counseling and self-help books and podcasts. Heck, throw in some cold showers for good measure. But those are not enough to conquer the demons.

“but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Romans 5:8

This verse tells us that God was willing to die for us to show His love. Who would die for someone who is worthless?

You are worthy because you are loved by the God who willingly died for you.
