“The hardest battle we fight is between what we don’t want to feel and what we know we must do.”

Unknown

Asking for help is a hard thing to do at times. It takes courage to admit you can’t fix the problem on your own. That’s why it’s the first step in AA, “admitting we were powerless.”

It’s an interesting concept though. We hate feeling like a loser or failure or that our life is out of control but we also don’t want to ask for help because we are afraid we appear like a loser. So we don’t do anything. We become paralyzed by defeat.

It’s when we can think long-term about the consequences of our actions that change can begin to happen. When we feel the weight of our choices and how they will play out in our lives, we get the motivation to take action.

No one wants to look back at their life and see that they dealt with the same struggle for their entire life. Or even worse, you pass that struggle onto your kids.

For me, the thought of my kids struggling with the same things I struggle with is enough motivation to kick my butt into action. I love my kids too much to allow this monster to destroy their life so I will do what is necessary to conquer it.

Sure, I may face temporary pain and embarrassment but it’s worth the freedom that will come with choosing to fight for a better life.
