“You can either practice being right or practice being kind.”
Anne Lamott
“You don’t understand. I have to correct them for being wrong because they can’t go on telling others the wrong info…”
Not only do I have to tell them but I will prove to them no matter what. Even if it means I have to yell and argue because it’s what needs to be done. It is my duty to spread the truth.
Man, I wish I would have had the Anne Lamott quote beat into my head at an early age.
I have a strong sense of justice which can be a good thing because I will fight for the truth. But it’s also a bad thing because I will fight for the truth.
I think back to arguments I had with my ex-wife, relatives, and even some co-workers and it’s disheartening. As I am so adamantly “explaining” the truth to them, I can just see their soul get crushed by the look in their eyes.
But hey I was right…
I have had to work on being kind instead of always being right. You can still be kind and speak the truth, it depends on you and how you treat the other person. I am not saying be nice and avoid saying what needs to be said so you don’t upset them.
Kind speaks the truth in love. Kind knows when to speak up and when to shut up and listen. Kind cares about dealing with people not just the problem.
