“When we forget our ability to choose, we learn to be helpless.” -Greg McKeown

Why do kids meltdown and have tantrums? Why do adults scream and yell? Same reason a cornered animal will attack you.

They feel helpless because they see no other choice available.

If I am having a rough day or it feels like things aren’t going my way, I pause and reflect on my situation. No, I don’t always do this right away. Most of the time I let myself get overwhelmed before I pause and reflect.

Once I finally pause, I think about how I got here and then devise a plan to move forward. It’s when I get upset and blame others that I go nowhere.

Or have you ever said to yourself, “It’s no use. I will never be free from _______.”

Is there some sin or habit you can’t kick? You are so tired of fighting that you accept defeat because you feel like there is no other option.

There is always a choice. You just may have made choices that trapped you instead of helped you move forward. At some point, you choose to give into the sin instead of asking for help. You choose to hide rather than seek out community. You choose to numb instead of dealing with your stress in a healthy way.

You have to realize that you are the only one responsible for your life and then make a choice each day to be the person you want to be.
