“Why did Grandma make the wrong decision…”
Kids say the darndest things, don’t they?
The other night at the dinner table I asked my kids, “If you could change one thing in the world, what would you change?”
Boy did they have great answers.
One said, “I wish people didn’t get angry.” Digging deeper they wished people did not fight.
Another said, “I wish kids didn’t need to be adopted” meaning they wished kids weren’t abandoned.
The last one said, “I wish parents did not leave” meaning they wished divorce didn’t happen.
To the last one, I said I agree and wished that didn’t happen in my life or theirs.
Then this kid said, “Why did grandma make the wrong decision in who she married?”
I responded, “She didn’t make the wrong decision because if that were the case then you could say Dad made a wrong decision as well.”
Pause for little brain to compute info…aaahh
“Hindsight is 20/20. How was Grandma or I or anyone for that matter to know what would happen? Besides, even if I knew what would happen I wouldn’t change my decision because it led to you 3 amazing kiddos.”
We then launched into a deep theological conversation about the sovereignty of God. And we discussed how God has a plan and can redeem even the worst of situations…yeah right…the only thing they dug into was their plate of nachos.
