“We can have peace if we let go of wanting to change the past and wanting to control the future.”

-Lester Levenson

You find peace by living in the in-between—that space between wanting to change the past and trying to control the future. I believe most would call that the present.

Or as Master Oogway would say, “Today is a gift. that is why it’s called the present.”

How often do you actually spend living in the present? Or do you spend you r time planning or dreaming for some magical utopian day in the future when everything will be stress-free?

We are not promised any certain number of days that’s why they Bible tells us in Psalm 90:12 to “number our days.” Tomorrow could be your last. Or you could live to be 100. You don’t know.

So why spend so much time worrying about what already happened or what might happen? Why not focus on what is happening right in front of you?

Your loved ones are a day older. How did you spend your time with them today?

The past has happened. Forgive who needs to be forgiven so you can move forward into the present. Set goals and dreams but don’t spend so much time in the clouds that you miss what is happening on earth right in front of you.

It’s not that we ignore the past and never dream about the future rather it’s about giving up the illusion that we have control over our time and finding contentment where we are in the in-between.
