Recently I had someone quote my words to a group. Yes, I am saying this to brag…not. I honestly forgot saying what they quoted and was just humbled that somebody read what I wrote.

But that’s enough about me.

This guy quoted me when I talked about finding contentment, but then he added this wisdom bomb.

He said something to the effect of, “Contentment is the greatest defense against the devil. When you are content he has nothing to tempt you with.”

When he first said this, I was impressed, but the more I thought about it throughout the day, the more it made sense.

Why did I react in anger and throw my toolbox? I wasn’t content with circumstances in my life.

Then as I began to think about my sins, I realized they can be linked back to me not be content.

Isn’t that what the first sin was about? Adam and Eve weren’t content with what God had provided. The serpent got them to doubt their contentment and look for “fullfilment” outside of God. I use quotations because outside of a relationship with God, you will never find true contentment.

We find true contentment in God because as Paul reminds us in Philippians 4:19:

“God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

What area in your life are you struggling to find contentment?
