What can painting houses teach you about being successful in life?
Here are two things I learned…
1) Plan ahead
2) Be flexible
When you are painting a multiple-room project with different colors, you have to plan for dry time so you do not waste time waiting for a wall to dry to start the second coat.
Or if you are painting ceilings, walls, and trim, you have to know where to start first so you don’t create extra work for yourself. If you paint the walls first then the ceiling, what happens if you drip ceiling paint onto the wall?
Let’s say you have it all planned out, and then the client adds on more work. This is great because it means more money for you, but it also throws a wrench into your plan, so what do you do? Be flexible.
In painting and life, things won’t always go as planned, so address each issue as it comes and keep moving forward.
Make a plan for where you want to go in life. Visualize it in your mind. Write it down. Refer back to it daily like a job site checklist.
Then, be flexible when things don’t go as planned. See this as an opportunity to learn and grow. And just like the extra money, this might just turn out to be beneficial for you.
