The great Renaissance artist, Michaelangelo was tasked to create a statue out of a block of marble. Not just any block but a block that previous artists tried to turn into a sculpture and failed.
How was Michaelangelo able to succeed?
He saw the potential within the marble and brought it out, one chip at a time.
Now, what does this have to do with your relationships?
It’s about seeing the potential in your friend, spouse, or child and helping them realize it. It’s about seeing the best in the other person instead of always the negative, about focusing on what fills up their heart and minimizing what empties it.
But Michaelangelo wasn’t the first to come up with this idea.
God does this for us. Just look at Philippians 1:6
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
God is the only one who knows everything about us and still loves us despite all our flaws and issues. He is the only one who knows what we were created for and our ultimate purpose.
He knows the potential in each of us and like the loving Father He is, wants to help us live it out. Yes, because ultimately it will bring Him glory but more than anything it’s because He loves us.
