How can you control how someone else acts?

You can’t.

You can sure try to but you would get better results from banging your head against the wall. At least in that situation, something will eventually give.

I struggled/struggle with wanting to be in control. I hate feeling like my life is out of control so a side effect of this is perfectionism. If I can be perfect then there won’t be any issues.

What an awful way to live.

At some point you reach your max and explode. It’s like trying to juggle bowling balls. Sure you can juggle a few but the more you add the harder it will become until they come crashing down.

How do you overcome this desire to be in control constantly?

Get divorced…ok that’s a joke…kind of. Unfortunately, that’s what it took for me to begin to change. I was faced with a situation which I had little control over. The more I tried to control the situation, the more frustrated I became.

I had to get to the point where I was helpless. Where my will was absolutely broken.

What did I find on the other side? Freedom.

Freedom from trying to control what is outside of me. I can’t control how someone else will respond, but I can control what I say or how I act, and that’s it. The rest you have to let go.
