“It’s not what happens to you that determines how far you will go in life; it’s how you handle what happens to you.”
Zig Ziglar
Imagine one day you wake up and you are on a cruise ship in the middle of the ocean. As you begin to walk around the ship, you realize you are the only one on the ship. No passengers, no crew, no captain. Just you all alone on this ship.
What are you going to do?
Maybe you go and find that the radio does not work. No one is coming to rescue you. It is up to you to save yourself.
Do you just give up? Do accept defeat because you know nothing about being the captain of a ship? Do you accept that you are never getting off the ship so you just try to enjoy the few days you have left?
Or do you accept that it is up to you to save yourself? Do you take inventory of food and supplies? Do you look for maps to figure out where you are so you can chart a course back to land? Do you take the role of captain and begin to figure out how to get the boat moving?
At some point in all of our lives, we all woke up and realized we were alone on our own ships. We realized that the direction forward was up to us.
Some never take control of their ships but allow the waves to push them around. Then complain when they did not end up where they wanted to be.
The brave few will face the fear and head into the unknown. They will take control of their ship and head off into the unknown. Knowing it is much better to fail on their chosen journey rather than letting the waves push them around.
